I don't get the Orihime wank either. She is exactly how you describe her, a puppy. Like one of those fluffy Golden Retrievers. What has she done that deserved so much hate?

Been the only character with any sort of confirmed romantic inclinations towards the main character. And since Rukia, the other girl, is preferred, she is a Threat.

As for why her an not Rukia, it's because Orihime is very docile and "unfeminist".

I don't really care about the shipping, or this series, but they hate her for the reasons Harmony shippers hated Ron, or Katniss/Gale shippers hated Peeta, because there's a) the defense is stronger on the other side and b) they like their pairing better.

...I prefer to ship Ichigo with Rukia, and I adore Orihime and am confused about why people would dislike her so vehemently 0_0

It's just...do you get why Harmony shippers hate Ron? Usually it has nothing to do with the character themselves, just that they are a rival. It's especially bad in fandoms where the more popular pairing has less canon to back it up, like Zutarans hating Aang. And I am generalizing here, and talking about the loud part of fandom. I know there are those who don't.

Or like how that person in the Donna secret right now really hates Amy. People just tend to take down one to rise up another. It's normal in fandoms, if mean.

Zutarian hated Mai more than they hated Aang, from my experience.

lol, you don't have to be a Borra shipper to hate Mako. He was a giant douche in his own right.

I shipped Mako/Asami and by the end I hated Mako.

I sooort of shipped Mako/Korra at the very beginning, but after a while I decided I shipped Mako/nobody because everybody deserved better than Mako.

I don't get why Harmony shippers hate Ron, or why Zutara shippers hate Aang. I mean, yeah I understand, but it's just so damn stupid. (I also ship Zuko/Katara. Not Harry/Hermione, though.)

I just...why would you throw away a perfectly good, likable character (not to mention one you can happily ship with other people at the same time)? To me that would detract from the fandom experience. If I don't like a character it's because I have specific reasons to dislike that character, not because of shipping reasons (and I ship a lot).

yeaaaah most ichigo/rukia shippers don't hater her. As far as I know the problems people have with her are what the anon above described (plot device, repeatedly wanting to protect her friends yet not doing so). And they're not even problems with Orihime herself, but the way Kubo has handled her.

And most Harmony/Zutaran/etc shippers don't hate Ron/Aang/etc. You're not objecting on their front, though.

But as far as I have ever seen, the Ichigo/Rukia shippers who do not like Orihime DO hate her because she has feeling for Ichigo, and come up with any other grievance as a way to support that, not the other way around.

I've always disliked her (not hated, don't care that much) because she's yet another embodiment of suffer-silently-through-your-unrequited-love-heroically-and-the-guy-will-someday-miraculously-return-your-feelings, and is sadly unlikely at this point to get any substantial characterization or action in the story.

Since Orihime's the only female character to explicitly state love for Ichigo, if the author decides to pair him up with someone at the end it will probably be her. I wouldn't care at all except their *love* will probably be nothing more than the above ass-pull on Ichigo's end.

(personally I'm hoping for Ichigo to die and go to Soul Society permanently at the end of the manga without being paired up so everyone can carry on shipping as they please)
