I left LJ for DW and have done everything I can to make myself available to all my old LJ friends, but some of them just refuse to keep in contact any way other than LJ. Not surprisingly, they're the same people who whine about the situation much the way OP is doing. I have no sympathy whatsoever.

I've had this happen with friends and people who insisted that LJ was still usable for them. I'm glad they felt it was still usable, but that doesn't mean I have to stick around--particularly if they whine about their f-list being empty and then end up not updating for six months and never commenting. I left all my info and do try to check back regularly, but my part was a ghost town after the shift to DW, and I'd rather be somewhere that's more active.

As for the Tumblr stuff, a lot bothers me about the site, but I did friend someone I had on my LJ there about a month ago, and now we talk even more than we already did, even with the awkward messaging and reply system. It's been a lot more fun to use since then, although I still mainly lurk, as someone else mentioned.

Now that it's been brought up, though, I've seen a LOT of people complaining about the newest update, so maybe there'll be another move to some other place sooner* than we think.

(The weirdest comments I've seen on the whole thing were from people who wanted to leave Tumblr and go back to LJ, instead of here or... any other blogging site. Talk about surreal.)

*aka 'maybe in a few years,' judging by LJ's timeline of frustration.
