Yknow, I was worried about The Hobbit being infected by Johnlock shippers, but... the big pairing in fandom is Thorin/Bilbo. It's like they're completely ignoring Cumberbatch, and it's amazing.

Granted, if he was Aziraphale, I probably wouldn't watch it because I have so much of an aversion for him. (This comes before Sherlock, when his character in Atonement triggered me pretty badly due to him behaving like an abusive ex I had. Actors are not their roles, etc, etc, but he still bothers me)

I'd be fine with Anyone But Cumberbatch, really. The casting for Gaiman and Pratchett miniseries/movies have been pretty good, so I don't think I'll be bothered with whoever they cast.

People were honestly worried that Bilbo/Smaug would be the big pairing? It looks like the reputation of Sherlock stans has been greatly exaggerated.

Desolation of Smaug hasn't come out yet, so it's clearly anyone's game.

Oh, they're still lurking about, waiting. It's not going to be the big pairing of all the movies, but I have no doubt we'll see more of it after the next film. I'm enjoying that they've calmed down a bit for now, what with Cumberbatch not really doing much of anything in the first movie. I don't even ship Thorin/Bilbo, but I've never been so happy to see something take over a fandom to the extent that it has, just because I'd so much rather be inundated with it than all the Smauglock nonsense.

Thorin/Bilbo seems to be the Big Pairing (The Aragorn/Legolas?), with Bofur/Bilbo and Kili/Fili as secondaries. At least going by Tumblr, at any rate.

I wouldn't be surprised if Smaug/Bilbo IS a large pairing when the movie comes out, though...

Smauglock is not going to get big because Cumberbatch only provides the voice. In fact, I've only seen people shipping it as a crack pairing (and not even much of that).

And honestly, the LOTR fandom is so big that a section of Johnlock shippers isn't going to have a major influence on it.

I'm also fine with anyone but Cumberbatch. Hiddles may be, objectively speaking, only marginally more attractive in appearance (sorry, Rinkydink fans, but Snoodletrout looks inbred and misshapen) but he has so much personality and sweetness to make up for it, while Cumbles is a bit of a Cunt.
