AYRT - I think I'm going to stop following the fandom. I'll probably still read fic, but no more following spoilers or cast news or production info. It just makes me so insanely uncomfortable and ASHAMED and GUILTY for participating in this - what is WRONG with people that they think this is okay? Or that the actors or producers or show OWE them anything?

UGH, I'm just having a lot of insanely uncomfortable and and upset feels. And this is coming from a former Supernatural/J2 fan.

Did you actually see the tweet? tumblr is saying it's fake. It would really ease my mind if it was, because so far I've been able to imagine that the creepy-ass fans are at least contained within the fandom.
I feel like the Supernatural cast got it a bit easier starting before tumblr/twitter made fandom so public.

Nope, I didn't see the tweet myself, but I wasn't able to find anything refuting it. Granted, didn't try incredibly hard (can't quite seem to find the tag to get the info about it), but I really, really don't find it that hard a jump to make.

And while the SPN actors might have had it a bit easier due to their lack of participation in social media, but I think the outrageous crazy of the fans might have outstripped it. Jensen Ackles got jumped at a con, and the ships that fans were suggesting were infinitely more messed up/socially unacceptable than those of the TW fandom. I think the majority of SPN fans weren't quite as deluded as much of the TW fandom, but the tiny percentage that was happened to be BUCKETS OF CRAZY.

I follow him on Twitter and just tried to find that Tweet. Unless he has since deleted it I don't think it was real.

I think people are mistaking it for that deleted tweet in which he said that he reads sterek fic while humping a wolf dildo (with a knot, they actually sell those, but looking at your icon, you probably know that :9)

No, there was definitely a screencap of a tweet that said something to the effect of "Stop sending me stuff about Hoechlin and Sterek. I will take a shit on your lawn" on what looked like O'Brien's Twitter. Now, I don't follow him and according to the anon above, they can't find that post, but I'm inclined to think he posted it, thought better of freaking out, and deleted it. Doesn't mean they aren't secretly freaked out, what with fans sending Sterek cookies to the cast...
