I can't ship them either and a big part of that is because of their looks, but not because I think Gimli is ugly. (I do think Legolas is beautiful but that doesn't stop me from shipping him with someone I don't find attractive.) It's kinda weird, but the height distance. I've got a weird sort of mental block against it. I can't ship hobbits with any human sized creature either.

Despite reading a bit of pervy hobbit porn back in my LotR days, I could never really ship anything with hobbits either, particularly with human-sized characters.

Oh the joys of The Hobbit that it has given us more hobbit-sized shipping options!
