I don't know if you're already familiar with it, but if you aren't, you might enjoy the Classic series then ;) A lot of the relationships back then are more like Ten and Donna's or Eleven and the Ponds'. While I'm not wild about Rory and Amy's later arc plot-wise, I loved that to them, the Doctor wasn't the most important person in their lives or the reason they were traveling, he was just a close friend who took them on amazing adventures, which is what he normally was to his classic companions.

(just a drive-by rec of course, I get that there are a lot of reasons why some people aren't interested in watching the classic series).

Oh I love the Classic! I have episodes from 1,2,3,4,5 and 7. I've seen some 6 as well, but to be honest, he didn't really appeal much. I had a roommate who had just about every episode that existed and I went through his library at one point.

I'd love to get back to the old who as far as the romanticness went, but keep to the new who as far as the special effects are concerned.
