(Anonymous) 2013-01-28 10:24 am (UTC)(link)To some extent and for some people, yes. But they're playing higher profile characters, so they've become higher profile actors, so more people are aware of them as people to gush over. My mother's never seen Cumberbatch in anything, but she's aware of him in a way she wasn't a few years ago because he's a lot more visible as a celebrity now. She also thinks he's attractive, without having seen him in anything. I have a friend who has only seen him in Atonement, thinks he was horribly creepy in it, and still finds the actor attractive. So I don't think attraction to someone is always based on equating them with their characters. Sometimes someone's ugly just equals another person's hot.
