I'm proud to be American, and intend to eventually serve my country in some respect (haven't decided how yet), but I am also aware and willing to acknowledge the faults and mistakes my country has made and continues to make. Yep.

Fair warning: I was patriotic until my third year in the army. I know a lot of other soldiers who have patriotism-crushing experiences, but it doesn't happen to everyone. I think I would have been ok if they hadn't stationed me in another country for a few years. Being immersed in another country's society and culture really changed the way I view America in everything from the people to social norms to the simple act of going to the store, not to mention the government. The only thing that I thought we do better is have stores open 7 days a week.
