I've been struggling with my quota at work since they raised it six months ago. Guess what they did today. Yep, raised it again. To the point where my job (that I've had for over a decade) is in danger.

That's what I thought last time. I got retrained by one of the fastest workers (she pulls crazy bonus numbers all the time). There was one tiny difference between what she and I were doing. I changed it and my quota improved a little (very little) bit. But I was still struggling, and now this.

I've plateaued. I can't go faster without compromising my work, which is supposed to be quality control, and if that is compromised then what the hell is the point of doing it.

Did you watch her actually go at it?

that is bad news though, if other folks can do it, you might be right that trouble is imminent. Can you jump somewhere else now if it comes to that?

I asked her to go slowly and explain everything like she was training a new clerk (she's also the trainer for this task). Then I watched her for a bit, at speed. Then she watched me. It took me a week to integrate the one tiny difference into my method (retraining a decade of muscle memory y'know).

I can ask to do different tasks in the department (like I did six months ago and was told 'no, all other tasks are spoken for' then weeks later a new clerk was hired into our dept and was put on a different task :/ ). I can also bid out to a different dept altogether, but the only postings are for phone rep jobs, which are a nightmare for my social anxieties.

I'll be deciding which is the lesser of two evils (or finding a new job).

Sounds like they want to fire everyone and get a whole new staff they can pay a lesser rate to! That sounds really familiar, at least.

I don't know what kind of work you do, or what business you're in, but all I can say is, 'good luck'.

And Noodly guy has a good point. Check with the trainer ASAP, because if you're falling behind because you missed a day of training or something, it might help.

Quality control at an insurance company.

I don't think they want to fire anyone, but we get paid bonuses for going certain percentages over quota. Bonus starts at 110%; the new quota is 115% of the old one.

And upping the bonus percentage would have been a blatant "we don't want to pay you" while upping the quota can (and has) been sugarcoated in "You're all working so hard! :D".

I guess they're cutting costs and don't want to pay bonuses any more. At least, that's my thought after reading your post now.

That's bullshit, and it's probably intentional. It's fucking totalitarian bullshit and it's absurd that we allow it to be a part of labor relations and a part of our lives and it has to end. God that pisses me off (on your behalf).
