Re: How big are you on patriotism?

I like the city that I live in, and I think of my country as home, because all of the people that I love live here, and I appreciate and do not take for granted the freedoms and the safety awarded me because I live here versus somewhere else - but I don't like "patriotism". A country is too big and abstract a thing to love, I think. People who are very patriotic are scary to me because their fervor seems to blind them to the things that are wrong in our country, and that there are people actively suffering under the structure of the country even as others are living well and reaping great benefits.
