I'm only patriotic in defense of my country. I freely admit that the U.S. has its problems, but it's when people start going "lol everyone is stupid and fat and poor in the U.S. for (some reason related to poor media representation)" that I feel the patriotic blood pumping. :/

That's because people are basically insulting you and the people you care about. Even someone who hates their country would probably feel defensive after a comment like that.
