Because scapegoating the awful furries let every other nerd feel superior, while claiming the animu nerds peddling child porn and the comic nerds demeaning women and the bronies welcoming admitted rapists as "special guests" are all "VOCAL MINORITIES OMG STOP JUDGING US."

Since the whole fucking point of that comment was "people like to feel superior even though their precious group is no less strange than furries," does it really matter?
