While OP may not have mad costuming skillz, I've met a fair few costumers with completely badass, accurate costumes that didn't get photographed. Most of the time it was due to no one really knowing the character (this happens a lot at NYCC), over-saturation of the character (Heath Ledger Joker), an overly congested con area (Marriott Saturday night at Dragoncon), or not wearing the costume for very long.

It happens to pretty much every costumer except Yaya Han.

I've won awards for cosplay at every single convention I've been to, and for a majority of those it's been for characters that aren't well-known in the slightest. I can also say with certainty that I've been photographed at all of those Cons as well, but for those obscure characters it was usually only one or two dedicated fans, the people who were there to shoot for fanzines or websites, and a few professionals looking for portfolio pieces.

What I'm saying is that usually if your costume is really that good and you're at least average looking (I'm no rock star but I get by) someone is going to want your photograph.

And this isn't even a Con, it's a zombie walk. OP is either not as good as she thinks she is at costuming, or she is far below average in the looks department, as others have pointed out.
