Some of us do know who she is, or know at least one or two reliable RL people who can vouch for her. "Real talk" is all very well, but perhaps you might consider at least asking whether anyone knows about somebody's bona fides before making the accusation?

ETA: To be fair, now that I've followed the link above I can see that more than one person likely did give her money, and perhaps at some point she did ask for help -- I don't have personal knowledge there. But I do know one of the early helpers, and that person's aid was entirely spontaneous, offered (and indeed pressed) without any request having been made. And that the help was offered because of personal and verified knowledge of the situation.

To be perfectly honest, it wouldn't matter whether someone had "a few RL friends" to vouch for the story or if money was never asked for. I've been around the internet for a long time, and EVERY single time a user's personal woes were known in any detail, it turns out their story was either partially or wholly made up. I mean this basically covers my thoughts and experience here:

Hence, the odds. I mean, I could be wrong. I'd just lose some money.

...no? I've offered to help out internet friends in tight spots and been refused several times - I doubt those people were lying. Last year, one of them borrowed a bit of cash from me while waiting on financial aid from school and paid it back in full at the agreed time. Not everyone you've been friends with from a distance for years is actually a lying asshole.
