Damn understandable.

But seriously, I feel bad that you have to go through that. I went to college for Computer Engineering (which is like electrical and programming merged into a weird major, as my school did it) and I never had any direct insult because I was one of the few women in the program (3 or 4 when I was a freshman, one dropped out, one had to retake classes and graduated a year after me. Granted, only 4 or 5 men graduated too). Nobody ever called me shitty sexist nicknames or anything. I don't know if it's because I kept to myself or I was lucky or what. I just hate that you have to go through that.

Thank you for the concern but don't worry, I've already been already used to this kind of hostility for a while and this is probably as bad as it is going to get.

It's a small class (12 total) and most of the others are older and know each other from other classes and shared job sites and have an intention of working in the industry.

There has definitely been a conflict in group projects where others expect me to stay out of the way and let the "real" students practice and then just let them give me the answer when they're finished but I'm there to learn -- not watch others learn, so I always demand at least some involvement or at least an explanation of how they got the answer.

There's definitely a ringleader though, without him leading the charge I don't think the other guys would really have verbalized anything (I think I would have been cool with some of them), and now they're all competing to be the biggest, coolest asshole by getting a reaction. Which I have no intention of giving them because I know how that ends up. Hopefully they get bored soon.

I'm kind of having a rapidly degrading week but I honestly hate this city. I no longer find it funny when people who've moved here from literally anywhere else are asked why they would do that by a bewildered, concerned local.

Thanks for letting me vent though. It made me feel better.
