Women are definitely allowed to fight - depending on their area of expertise (bomb squads, canine units, etc etc) women have been in almost all areas of combat for a very long time. The fact that there is no defined 'front line' in any conflict America is currently involved with makes figuring out what this would specifically change or affect for most women in the service a tad convoluted tbh.

Also, gays have been in the military since the beginning of America - the only thing that changed is that people are openly allowed to be out and the rules about sodomy being specifically not allowed are being amended. A lot of people were open about their sexuality before all the wording changed though - when my long time friend was on a deployment in Iraq five or so years ago a woman from his unity went on leave for a few weeks to marry her partner in Europe and everyone was cool with it.
