I have Word 2002, and am trying to convert .doc files to .pdf format. I thought i could do it via google.docs, by uploading a .doc file and then dl'ing it as a .pdf. But sadly, i only get the option to dl as a .doc.

(When you create a file in google.docs, you get the option to dl it in several formats, .pdf included.)

So - anybody have a .doc to .pdf converter that they use and like? Preferably a free one, as i'm kinda broke.

I'd suggest CutePDF. It's teeny tiny and installs as a printer. Then you can use the print button to convert to PDF. Never had any problems with it.

No no. It's just that it sets itself up as though it were a printer. So instead of the document printing, it gets PDFed to your desktop. I used it for PDFing my thesis (at the suggestion of the binding place) and it worked a treat.

Can't you just go File-->Export as a .pdf?

Nope. You just don't get that option, apparently, when the file is a Word .doc. I dunno what's up with that.

It's more intended for converting to (or between) ebook formats, but Calibre is capable of PDF as an output format as well as an input.

Is that a free program? I'll probably dl/bookmark just because some people have wanted ebook files, too. Thanks!

Yes, it is. I've been squeeing over it lately to anyone who will listen because I can put all the research documents I'm gathering for my Master's on my Kindle and mark them up just as if they were native MOBI files.
