I too am a USUK shipper who doesn't like Franada :| It's such an obvious sideship, it's not even funny. But I guess anything to keep the author from making France a villain/pedophile/whiner or whatev.

But try being a GerIta shipper who stand Spamano. URRRRRGH! And I bet it must be 10x worse for Spamano shippers who don't like GerIta.

Yeah, that's what really turned me off of it as well. Plus the fact that it's often treated as the less dramatic counterpart to USUK, like France and Canada had the exact same relationship minus the drama. And if I never read another fic where England complains about American English while France and Canada have pleasant conversations entirely in French, I'll still have read too many.

I feel you about the Gertalia/Spamano thing. I used to be cool enough with both to read fic if I liked the concept enough, but it irked me how the other ship was always shoehorned in.

This is a pet peeve of mine as well. I'm tired of reading USxUK fics where FrancexCanada are this perfect, healthy relationship with no drama. Even in the doujinshi I've seen with both pairings, the plot is 90% of the time France and Canada scoff at how dysfunctional USxUK is while whispering sweet French nothings to each other.

And that's a really good point about the French/English thing. One pet peeve I have about France/Canada is that it often treats his 'French side' as most significant- having him go by Matthieu, having him speak in French all the time, etc. Which is really silly because he speaks English all but one time in the strips, and... the VAST majority of Canadians are not from Quebec.

It was even said in the strips that the French found Quebecois French screwed up!
