Okay, I just googled it and am now reading; the design is absolutely gorgeous, but... it is full of Russian stamps, of all things, saying that the wires were sent to a prison. Is it intentional?

It's a Soviet one

LOOK, HOLMES WAS JUST GONE FOR A REALLY, REALLY LONG TIME

... or i just can't read anything in the cyrillic alphabet. sorry russians. :(

and the internet was much smaller when i made sub rosa. you would not believe the amount of time that went into finding those telegram images. i think i looked at every single image of a vintage telegram that was on the internet in 2005.

Aw, it's cool that you did come across this secret.

As a Russian I personally find this utterly hilarious, and I don't think it diminishes the quality of the work in any way. [although it does, of course, make it less ground-in-history].

It's no wonder those were the images you found: the theme of Soviet prisons and concentration camps (the other stamp says "Magadan", if you're interested; it is possibly the most widely known place of exile in USSR) is and has always been very popular indeed. Internet is often seen as a database for all the information documentary, especially for the kind which has long been banned due to censorship. RuNet therefore was full of various data regarding USSR and the political repressions as soon as it became remotely big.

And yeah, I know)) It all progresses devilishly fast. It is astonishing that I remember the creation of Wikipedia, the time when there was no wi-fi, the time when there was no Twitter... when there was dial-up... worse: Fidonet...

Also: thank you for Sub Rosa anyhow. I genuinely enjoyed it, especially the piece of article.
