Haha, I was going to mention that in this thread - the local newspapers always make a big deal about their casting calls here in Minnesota (where there are so many people of Scandinavian descent that one time my high school friends and I split into teams of Norwegians and Swedes to play a game). My mom and brother and I actually qualify, so we always joke about maybe doing it. We never do though.

it's so funny that people in other countries do that all the time -- I say this as someone who laughed at many Americans on Japanese tv shows while living in Japan -- but if we did that to a foreign person in America the world would have a meltdown.

Well to be honest Scandinavians laughs at everyone (including ourselves) and if we where idiots abroad and someone called us out, the rest of the country will be laughing right there with ya!

We even got a whole reality show dedicated to see Norwegians go on package holidays to Spain and look like idiots*. So the rest of the country can laugh at them.

Then again, a Swedish politician called Norway "the last communist state" (Or "half communists") and our politicians/media found it to be one of the funniest if not slightly true things ever, and in Sweden they fired the poor dude.

Dude, move over. We Romanians are the kings and queens of making fun of ourselves. I mean, you have no idea...it's in the newspapers on a daily basis. Every TV shows that shows even a spark of intelligence mocks something or someone (or both) in our country.

Our governors sink us into poverty move and more? Mockery.
They give their employees 25000 euros salaries per week and bonuses for putting their pickles (I'm not kidding) early? Mockery.

Our hospitals manage to kill people with sprained wrists? Mockery.

Are we breathing? Mock mock mock.

I mean...you have to live in this country for a few months to realize how this whole national mockery business goes.
What is horrible to normal countries in Europe, we have learned to laugh at because we're so tough skinned that after the apocalypse it'll be us and the roaches. (or, as a national joke goes: if the Apocalypse is coming tomorrow, come to our country. We're fifty years behind of times. You'll be safe)

P.S: Trust me, we look at Sweden as some type of Utopia, but don't think we're COMPLETE heathens though.
It may not be well known outside, but one of ours actually looked into Penicillin 50 years before Alexander Fleming, so we may be self-derisive and thick skinned and run by thieving idiots who should be shot, but we've got bitchin' minds. xP

You look at Sweden as an Utopia with Norway so close to the Swedes and so much better in every way! ~~never underestimate the rivalry between Norway/Denmark/Sweden, you have to torture us to make us say something nice about the Stupid Swedes and Drunk Danes...~~

Oh shit...I meant to say where you're at. Basically we see all the Nordic countries as very advanced. Norway, Sweden, Denmark...they're all very top notch countries for us so don't worry.

*pats back* We don't really differentiate between any of the three. xP

I have been talking a lot about Sweden so I get your confusion. We might all be advanced countries, but Norway is still THE MOST ADVANCED! ~~ignoring that Denmark is the happiest country in the world, and Sweden are better at science than us, but we have more money so take that former overlords!~~
