It's easy to pick episodes you love from shows you love, but how about the times you've really enjoyed a specific episode from a show that you either don't like, aren't interested in, or haven't gotten around to watching thoroughly yet?

I don't care much for The X-Files, the premise doesn't interest me and the other episodes I've checked out aren't to my taste, but I loved "The Unnatural" more than every friendly-alien movie I've ever seen put together. It was one of my favorite hours of TV ever.

Also, Doctor Who is generally too cheesy and goofy for me to muster any enthusiasm about it, but I watched "Vincent and the Doctor" with my niece and nephew and came close to crying at how lovely it was.

(btw, I had to google both of these examples to figure out their episode titles)

"Two and a Half Deaths" from CSI.

CSI: The Tarantino-directed episodes where Nick is buried alive (and I don't even like Quentin Tarantino).

Dollhouse: The one where a Rosssum drug makes everybody high.

The episode of Big Bang Theory where all the guys are crushed to death by a series of boulders and then the better scientists come in to analyze this strange phenomenon and they are all nice reasonably well adjusted people and Amy meets one and finally gets a boyfriend she deserves The End Emmys all 'round

I've never followed Law & Order SVU regularly, just the occasional rerun on USA. But "911" is one of the best police procedurals I've ever seen. The girl does so great with just her voice (the episode would have been so much less suspenseful if you could see her), and it's quite the acting showcase for Mariska.

Also with regards to great police procedurals- Homicide: Life on the Street. I've seen around the first 5 seasons, on-and-off. I like it but I can't say I'm "fannish" about it like I am with other series. But the three-episode arc of "The City That Bleeds", "Dead End" and "End Game" is great. Steve Buscemi turns up in "End Game" and is super creepy, and it ends on a very morally ambiguous note for Munch.

There's an episode of SVU where parents are raising twin daughters even though one was born a boy - something went wrong at the circumcision, I think - and then somehow they're involved in a crime, and I don't even remember it like I wish I did, I just remember it was really good.

Gotta be based on the David Reimer case. So wikipedia tells me the episode is "Identity" (6x12).

Yeah, I remember this episode and it was basically the David Reimer case. (The crime was that one of the twins killed their horrible abusive therapist after finding out what had happened, and neither of them would come forward and say which one of them did it.)

That episode of Community that had Jack Black in it. Boooooo.

I don't like Torchwood, but I always loved the episode "Captain Jack Harkness".

Well, I loved the main plot. The part with Ianto and Owen's "my dead girlfriend can beat up your dead girlfriend" bitchfight was stupid.

I can't stand Grey's Anatomy, but I have a bizarre everlasting love for that ridiculously epic two-part episode where they had to operate on that guy with an unexploded shell in his stomach and it could go off any minute and blow up the whole hospital up or something.

I really liked Sozin's comet part 3 and 4 of Avatar the Last Airbender. This show is kind of lame to me, aside from the fighting choreography and a few funny moments. I liked the fight between Azula, Zuko and Katara. It was pretty exciting. Not the best thing I've ever seen, but I enjoyed it enough.
