Yeah, the Hobbit or LotR aren't British things in the same way that something like Sherlock Holmes or (a more recent example) Harry Potter is. It doesn't matter what British actors play in it, most of the fandom doesn't view them that way because the books aren't set in Britain and Tolkien drew influences from a lot of sources that aren't closely connected to British culture. Maybe there are some AUs where Bilbo and human Smaug get together to drink tea and some fangirls squee about Cumberpatch's voice work or whatever, but these books and movies are a part of international nerd legacy, so fuck off with that.
