Because it reduces an entire nation/culture to a cutesy stereotype purely for someone else's pleasure?

If that doesn't squick you out, then at least consider that people having an extremely misinformed impression of an entire country/culture is going to lead to awkward and possibly racist interactions if they actually encounter any of the people they fetishize or go to that country.

Ah, yes. I can see how that bothers some. I haven't considered that, since I'm never in those fandoms at all in any way, so I'm not really familiar with the behaviour.
