This is EXACTLY what I think. Of course, I don't really ship them, which is part of it. I'm not averse to reading shippy fic, but the characterization never seems to run true, especially for Garak. He's attracted to Bashir, sure, but it's just really hard for me to imagine him in anything resembling a normal romantic/physical relationship. I've always thought their relationship would be a little harder to define. The possibly-unrequited, weird UST in canon is much more fun for me.

I certainly don't begrudge shippers taking it to the next level in fic, but I wish there was more.... not-quite-shipping. I dunno.

This. I definitely can't see a real romantic relationship, just one-sided UST or a friends-with-benefits relationship.
