As an Aussie living in America, I wish I could say it was just fandom that fetishized us. Lordy, it's uncomfortable to have strangers tell you that they literally did not listen to a damn word you said because your accent is so hot. It's like the linguistic equivalent of leering at someone's boobs.

I just...don't understand people who do this. I sometimes find myself enjoying the sound of a person's accent, but I would never comment on it or make it the focal point of my interactions with that person. It seems so incredibly rude to me. When I overhear someone else do it, I cringe with second-hand embarrassment and discomfort.
