I'm not at all trying to say that 'it's OK because of the time it's set' - though some people here have clearly misunderstand the language used. I'm trying to say that it's not "unhealthy" to the extent that the Edward/Bella one clearly is. Holmes can be very difficult, but Watson is not a doormat; people need to read all the source material.

She initially objected, because, well...13 years old and married off to an older man (from a culture very alien to the ones she was familiar with) against her will to serve the ambitions of her brother. But she eventually came to love Drogo (who, unlike Viserys, treated her well, despite the rather violent aspects of Dothraki culture - Dany's just about the only non-Dothraki woman encountered during those sections of the first book or two who isn't raped), and adapted to the Dothraki life. It's an interesting relationship (actually, one of the better ones in ASOIAF, as it's not abusive, incestuous, or both, and eventually grows beyond the political desires that created it).
