(Anonymous) 2013-02-01 01:12 am (UTC)(link)He's not pining for her at the end of the movie. When he says "Enough. Enough now" that's the end of the pining. He presumably can talk to her properly now. She's not suffering the burden of his love. I don't think the movie could be more clear that it's over now.
Also, I don't think there's any holiday the three of them went on where he's there to mope over her character. If you mean that they're at the airport together at the end, I think they're just there to greet the guy coming back from Portugal. It's showing their relationship being normal now, not introducing new torment for Juliet.

I don't know how you can possibly get that by how he acts in the airport. And if the film wanted to imply their relationship was normal, he'd have moved on and got a girlfriend of his own. If you're so madly in love with someone that you can't act like an adult in front of them it's probably not a good idea to keep going on a couples holiday with them.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-03 02:18 am (UTC)(link)The next and last scene is the 3 of them picking up their friend at the airport. Mark has come with Juliet and Peter to the airport to greet Jamie. He is not going on holiday and neither are they.
The movie could have chosen to have a random new girlfriend in the scene who had to be introduced, but I don't think her absence implies the entire storyline was a big fakeout and Mark's exactly where he was at the beginning. Only worse because now instead of avoiding Juliet he's openly longing for her and making her uncomfortable. He could still be doing that using a girlfriend for cover, after all, if you're refusing to take the earlier scene at face value. I took the fact that he was hanging out with both of them as a sign he was being more friendly to her than he was earlier.
Maybe you imagine him being that way now, but it seems hard to think the movie's trying to make that point.

Which isn't followed up by his actions where he appears for the rest of the movie.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-03 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)The Xmas Eve scene has him saying he's moving on. That's the end of the story. The only time he appears after that is at the airport where he does nothing to contradict what he said on Xmas Eve or prove that he was actually lying to himself when he said it was enough.
