I loved the movie but some of the singing really needed improvement, I agree.

And the "keep the camera on close-up for five minutes straight" wasn't artistic, it was boring and lazy.

Some of the close-ups I didn't mind, but others - yeah - definitely felt myself getting bored. Which is weird since watching people just stand on stage and sing (which should be the same thing) isn't boring to me at all.

SO much agreement on the artistic camera direction. The great thing about the music in Les Miz is you can be sitting in the back row of a crappy theater and still feel the emotion in songs like 'On My Own', "I Dreamed a Dream" and "Do You Hear the People Sing". You didn't need to be UP IN THEIR FACE. It honestly ruined portions of the movie for me, because the camera shots did not match up with the emotions and/or what was being said in the song.

It cheapened the emotionalism of the songs for me.
