Bureaucratic hiring practices

[personal profile] khronos_keeper 2013-02-02 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Here's a question for you guys: I've been applying to a government job that has a really strong bureaucratic system. They've told me in December they'd start notifying people about hirings/rejections in January.

Of course it's now Feb, so I'm a little worried. I'm not really familiar with this particular government dept. bureaucratic procedures, but I figure it probably operates like any other bureaucracy.

Do these types usually notify people who get hired first, and then later send out rejections? Do they go through alphabetical order? I'm just twisting in the wind, and I wish I had even a little something to grab onto to figure it out. :(

In a lot of businesses, and I assume government jobs as well, they'll send out offers first, then rejections, so if someone doesn't take the offer for whatever reason, they can go to the next candidate without going "just kidding about the rejection, you're hired!"

if you've got an HR manager or some contact, you could send an email just asking about the status of your application. That should get you an idea of where they're at in heir process.

Pretty much this. They pick out the front runners and make offers, then wait and see how many, if any, rejections they get before sending rejection notices so that they'll have fall back candidates without looking like asses.

[Also, computer are you drunk? Candidate is not canadanism : /]
