19. [SPOILERS for The Office]

This ship came out of nowhere, and I love it. Though I do feel kind of bad about the pairing it could get in the way of. But still. I loved it from moment one. *~~~mixed feelings~~~*

I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I mean, I've always loved Jim and Pam, and it is obviously the show's OTP, but I find myself really liking Brian. I am a fickle shipper.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
I can't be okay with cheating spouses. However, I like it's introduction only because it makes Jim and Pam seem normal. They have a normal marriage where sometimes... sometimes we might be tempted and sometimes things are *really hard* and what I hope is to see Jim and Pam resolve the problem like mature adults in a healthy relationship.

But I'm boring.

IA with you. I like that it's challenging Jim and Pam as a couple and giving them some drama to work with. But I don't want this story to head off into the "Pam cheats on Jim" storyline.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
No, cheating would never happen. They already tried to introduce a "temptation" storyline with the temp that obviously wanted Jim, and there was not even a flicker of interest there on his end. They'd never have Jim and Pam spilt up.

I think the shipping of Brian/Pam is more like, "Oh, he's adorable and sweet and if Jim didn't exist they'd be a cute couple" sort of ship. The kind that results in great fic, really. That's how I see it, anyhow.

Idk. I just really really doubt that the show is going to end with Jim and Pam getting divorced, so it seems pointless to invest any energy into this ship.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I like Brian and I could get into the ship but...it's never going to happen so what's the point in trying to care?

Mostly I'm just annoyed that the writers thought there wasn't enough of a genuine and organic story to tell without bringing in a 3rd party.

Yes! I was actually going to make a secret similar to this. Jim/Pam was a ship that I wound up loving more than I ever thought I would... and I was more emotionally invested in them than I figured I'd get in anything to do with The Office, haha. But when she fought with Jim, and Brian broke 'character' or whatever you'd call it to come comfort her... oh man.

I am slightly disappointed that it feels like a slightly rushed subplot... for never having had them mentioned in canon (although the characters have 'known' him as the documentary crew for years) he's suddenly become important in pretty much every episode. I know that this is the last season, but it feels like this subplot is being forced in really quickly.

I don't think the show will have Jim and Pam break up (and I wouldn't want them to, really, and I'd be really sad if Pam cheated on Jim...) but I still have feels for Brian and Pam.

tl;dr way too many feelings for such a silly show.

I FEEL THIS WAY ABOUT ERIN AND PETE

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I FREAKING LOVE ERIN AND PETE <3

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much OP. I am so glad I am not the only one shipping them. They have renewed my interest in the show because I just want to see Pam run away with him.

a while ago I wanted to make a thread like
"LET'S TALK ABOUT THE OFFICE (does anyone even watch this)"

(last season was so bad, and this season is ...good? though I could have done w/o return of Andy and I cannot believe it's ending)

Jim/Pam OTP, they cannot break up okay :(((((

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Blech. I don't care much about Jim/Pam as a couple any more, but she's sad that her husband gets involved in a new, demanding job (outside the dead end dying-industry/company job where they waste time all day) so she needs another man to save her? I know the show's been playing up Pam the Victim by playing Jim as a jerk on top of the job, but it just makes Pam look pathetic to me. If this ship happened she'd be trading down from the aimless paper salesman to a guy who spent the past 9 years holding a boom mike on a weird documentary and probably sees her as a kindred spirit.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
p.s. If their roles were reversed there's no doubt in my mind that people would be seeing Jim as a pathetic loser trying to undermine his more talented and ambitious wife because he was jealous and she was growing beyond him because he was too limited.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Except that's bull. Pam is still working towards expressing her talents and interests, as evidenced by her working to get multiple murals despite the fact she's left as functionally a single mom while Jim is starting the business. He's not a bad guy, but he's been ignoring the costs to anyone but himself.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-10 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Not sure what you're saying is bull. I didn't say Pam actually was a jealous loser. I said if the roles were reversed I think Jim would be seen as such while Pam had grown beyond him with her graphic design career no matter how many Scranton mural projects (or DM promotions or whatever) he had. (People were saying that back in S3 when Pam was a receptionist who'd expressed interest in graphic design.)

I just can't imagine that if Pam was in Philly working on a new job and some girl showed up to comfort him because she was neglecting him it wouldn't be seen as pretty repulsive if the show portrayed it this sympathetically. Pam's stressed by being a single mom 3 days a week and doesn't have much sympathy for Jim's stress at this point. Same with Jim in reverse. He's not getting the "understandable to want to cheat" edit.
