I thought she was just a princess? I'm lost here.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Twilight Sparkle is not currently a princess. She's just a (somewhat Mary-Sueish) pony that is being "trained" for something. Apparently that "something" is her ascension to becoming a princess.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
VWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORP ALERT ALERT ALERT Incorrect usage of the term "Mary Sue", your internets have been revoked, please turn in all of your internets and get to the back of the line for your next turn.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh christ, look at how many fucks people really give over it. It conveys the idea, goddamn.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT

What, "a female character I don't like"? Because that's all I see anymore when I see it, since people are lazy fucks who can't put a coherent thought into why they dislike a character (usually just because she's female)

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Well, when I used it, I meant to infer that she's a near-perfect character, largely without any relate-able flaws or anything. But yeah, a lot of people do just use it to mean "a female character I hate".

In fairness, I doubt TS was an author insert or anything like that.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
DA

I got what you meant but I'd like to say out of the mane six, I relate to her them most, especially her flaws. She is a perfectionist, she'll wore herself out trying to do the correct thing or what she things she is expected of her.

Twilight Sparkle is the pony version of Leslie Knope.

I don't know I find her flaws (and implied OCD) veeeery relate-able. Did you miss Winter Wrap up where she sucked at doing everything BUT being a "manager"

"I don't relate to them"=/= "they are unrelatable to anyone"

No it doesn't. Stop taking terms and making them mean something else that's stupid.

That's not evolution of language. It's regression back to monkeyspeak.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
ook?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
So if she is being trained to be a princess, and she is now becoming a princess, what is the problem? Does fandom not like the prince that is marrying her?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I have no idea, I'm not really in the fandom, nor do I watch the show anymore. I used to follow the show, but I never really was in the fandom. Since the online fandom of Bronies is largely comprised of assholes, I avoid it like the plague. I can only imagine the frenzy that Bronies are whipping themselves into over this.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
(not sure if trolling or just confused but I'll play)

It wasn't clear what she was being trained for, she was practising her magic while learning the value of friendship. She becoming a princess may change the relationship within the main characters, until now there was a balance in the group: 2 pegasus, 2 earth ponies and 2 unicorns. Twilight being an alicorn changes that, especially if she acts like the others are beneath her.

There is no prince.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
DA:

I guess I can see why the fandom would be upset about Twilight's ascension to alicorn/princess-dom then, if they're worried it'll change her interactions with the rest of the characters.

I doubt she'd act snotty though, or like anyone was beneath her. But in fairness, I haven't really watched in a few seasons, so I am not 100 percent on that.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
shouldn't the way characters interact change anyway? Good storytelling is about change. If one of them changes station, of course they are going to have to change how they relate to others, especially if the others are lower class.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I agree, but I think people are going to be afraid that Twilight Sparkle will leave the cast, or something.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
don't worry about it, thread's over

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Well how does she become a princess without marrying a prince then? I still don't understand why fans are upset, it is a little girl's cartoon, little girls dream of marrying princes and becoming princesses and living happily ever after. With babies, or foals I guess if she is a horse.

If her friends aren't princesses, I thought they were though, all princesses of something like that Sailor Moon show they've all got their special magic they were princesses of, then of course she should treat them different. Princesses are better than non-princesses. Except Princess Sarah, she was weird. Not a patch on Princess Diana.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Because in MLP, princesses don't become so because they marry a prince. They apparently become princesses magically somehow that is going to be explained on the 16th of Feb.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose they gotta keep it PG, so they can't show the husband. I still think it is a bad message to send to young girls though. They gotta get married eventually after all.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
There has been a wedding already, so your feeble attempt at trolling is just funny.

Bow before your god.

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2013-02-09 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Ponies have a pretty clear power structure. The rulers are the most powerful. They call themselves princesses but the Alicorns are clearly Godqueens. All the powers of the lesser pony races, and notably more powerful magics then even the superior unicorn race. All serve them. The Celestial, the Lunar, the Cadance. And now, the Twilight.

I wonder how Bronydom still buys into this "all powerful" fanon when in one episode Celestia got struck down within seconds by a fucking insect horse X)

I, for one, welcome our new princess overlord.
And here's my personal theory: when Twilight is Princess they're gonna need a new element to complete the Mane Six, so they bring back Derpy and give her this magic jewelry stuff. Bronydom rejoices!
Then, right at the beginning of Season 4, they make her crash into a parked car and make her die a fiery death. It would be fantastic!

Celestia confused power with ability to direct that power. Celly has more power in total (ability to raise the sun/or not, ability to send people to the moon, etc, but that doesn't mean the power can be brought to bear the same way as someone else's power. Celly lost to Chrys because she forgot that. Like how we humans can destroy any animal on the planet with our weapons, but if we get into an arse kicking contest with a porcupine we're in for a world of hurt (in this case a pony powered by love and whose main weapon is the power of love, tried to defeat with weaponised love a creature who feeds on it).

Or like in Greek mythology various less powerful gods would get the better of more powerful ones from time to time depending on circumstances and personal domains.
