Re: Medieval literature
(Anonymous) 2013-02-09 12:33 am (UTC)(link)Also, a really good book about medieval literature (and also much more comprehensive in terms of exposing you to medieval literature than I could ever be) is Ernst Robert Curtius' European Literature and the Latin Middle Ages. It is insaaaaane. Like, a long, incredibly lucid scholarly exegesis of the way that classical Latin literature and aesthetics and production influenced and were adapted and taken up by medieval literature, with copious quoting from both classical & Latin sources (with particular reference to Dante - it pretty much came about through Curtius getting really obsessive about the literary roots of Dante). Love that book. May be a little dry for you, though. And long.
