Yeah I'm seriously thinking of disengaging from the fandom at this point. I'll keep watching the show, but I really don't feel the negativity was warranted. But then again I didn't think it was THE MOST PERFECT SHOW SINCE FIREFLY before, so.

OP who went anon accidentally: For the past five months this fandom has been such a positive space for me, and it's kind of been my rock :( I am hoping that this bitchfit doesn't continue for long because when I joined the fandom I just wanted to be in a cool place with nice people who talked about the show and its characters and made cool fanworks and talked meta. I don't give a shit what goes on behind the scenes, I just want to talk about how Troy/Britta sucks and how that one thing Annie said was hilarious and how Abed's head was awesome as usual.

My fandom being bitchy is making me sad :/ I mean, I think people will get back in the swing of things soon but I'm just so tired of the Harmon talk, it's harshing my Community buzz.

Oooh I agree that Troy/Britta sucks! Which is disappointing because I liked it in theory way back in S1, but ever since the show's been taking it seriously it's been terrible in execution.

I keep trying so hard to like it despite my T/Ab leanings because I love Britta deeply and I want her to be happy but. . .this relationship is just a mess.

Like don't even get me started on the backstory because I tried to start with a clean slate last night, but although their plot made for good tv and was hilarious I couldn't help but be uncomfortable when they started hitting each other. In my book people in relationships don't hit each other, they just don't. I mean, I guess Troy liked it because he's kinky but that wasn't an intentional thing.

Troy/Britta, good for the funny but bad for each other, basically.

I think I've mentioned this here before, but my main problem with Troy/Britta is that Troy oscillates from thinking she's So Hot and Awesome and then switches back to Britta's The Worst, usually from episode to episode, sometimes even within the same episode. And I just...can't really stand the idea of Britta being in that kind of relationship, especially when in show the whole thing is seen as "Oh Troy's such a nice guy, that's so different for Britta!"

Plus, in this episode especially, it's so patently obvious that he cares more about Abed and his whole deal. Like not even in a shippy way, just...he's obviously more invested in Abed's health and happiness than in Britta's, and I'm not hugely fond of that either for Britta's sake.

And then on the Britta side, the whole "It's progressing...it's PROGRESSIVE" was just gross if it meant what I think it meant. Like, if it's in the same vein as her being friends with the assumed-lesbian girl, if part of her dating Troy is because he's black and that's extra ~activist cred, that bothers me too.

I LOATHE THAT ASPECT TOO. I have no idea why they write them that way but it makes me deeply uncomfortable. And it makes the "she's so hot and awesome" thing seem forced because the scenes where they're arguing read much more true and that. . .is not a good sign. The writers are forcing it and the more they force it the worse it comes off.

I am very invested in Britta's well being and happiness and this is just not something that will make her happy in the long run. Britta deserves better. Not that Troy is bad, but he is bad for her. They are just not compatible and it leads to disaster.

Yeah I agree. I do ship but I do try to do my gen meta without my shipping goggles because I do have capacity to remove them :) Yes Abed's health, happiness, and security is still Troy's number one priority, and he still values Abed's opinion more than anyone else's, which is really the big elephant in the room in Troy and Britta's relationship. Britta's not going to get her needs met if her SO is sending all his love, affection, and energy somewhere else. Something in the future is gonna give.

People I've talked to seem so torn about that moment and unsure what it meant. Some people thought she was just nervous and shy about her new relationship and other people thought it had activist cred attached and I have no clue how I feel about it. I do get a little inkling of a feeling that Troy is a project for her, subconsciously.
