I missed the thread the other day but I'm glad you're OK. I have had several vaso-vagal syncope events and they can do severe lasting damage. Once you have one, you're highly susceptible to them for the rest of your life. Have your doc refer you to a cardiac specialist who can go over everything in depth with you and also do routine check-ups (usually annually for under 40 and twice annually for those 40 and over).

My own personal experience is that I had some brain damage from the lack of blood and oxygen when my heart stopped. The damage was mostly slight but it was in several areas of my brain and one of my temporal lobes essentially doesn't exist anymore. I have a very poor short term memory now, I have trouble communicating (as you can probably tell by this comment which probably doesn't make as much sense to you as it does to me), and I cannot process emotions normally, either feeling little or no emotion at most times and at other times feeling emotions so strongly that I can't control them or my behavior. The best example is the instances when I've been startled; I usually don't react to it at all but when I do I have an extreme fear reaction that includes physical responses like trembling and crying.
