Naw this episode is pretty controversial in terms of the Dean.

Personally I thought the blackmail part was hilarious until he mentioned he was reading Jeff's emails to his therapist at which point I became uncomfortable :/

The showrunners/writers don't have the best track record with the Dean's sexuality and sexual expression. Sometimes it's endearing but sometimes they just cross the line between cute and creepy and many other people besides you (me included) felt it crossed that line.

Personally I didn't mind the blackmail angle so much (Jeff was being a HUGE dick by lying to his friends and the dean was just threatening to expose the lie, so for me that's not so much "blackmail" as much as it's "turnabout's fair play.") but I can see how someone else would find it problematic. The only part of that whole exchange that made me go "WHOA, WHOA, BACK IT UP" was when the dean accidentally revealed that he's been reading Jeff's emails. THAT'S JUST NOT COOL. Sure the dean pointed out that he was legally allowed to do so since Jeff was using a Greendale account and apparently the dean has legal access to everything that happens through Greendale accounts, but legal or not that shit did not sit right with me morally. That was an abuse of power, Dean, and stalker-ish to boot! *shudders*

Anyway, while I'm here, can I just ask if I'm the only one who loved Jeff dance with the dean during "The Hunger Deans"? HOLY CRAP. It was so... perfect. *___*

I LOVED THAT DANCE. IT WAS SO SEXY AND PERF.

"BEST FRIENDS!"

"You can't make me not go away that easily"

The last episode kind of made me ship Dean/Jeff *_* I know some people are like "that's kind of creepy that he moved in next door" but I hope they become kind of besties, if one of the besties was still kind of creepy.

Jim Rash looked amazing in that green dress!

And the red one too!

AND THAT AVIATOR COSTUME. Unf.

Jim Rash is gorgeous in. . .everything. And he wears dresses way better than I do. And somehow even though in some moments I find him creepy he still manages to be insanely likable and hilarious and I root for him anyway. He is very charming.

That dance was my favorite part.

I've always interpreted the Dean as being somewhat creepy so that episode didn't really bother me.

I still like the character though, but I tend to like characters who would be really horrible to deal with in reality as long as the characters are funny (this is why I like shows like It's Always Sunny and The League.)
thinkatory: ([DW] I can see that.)

I always describe Sunny as "the show about the worst five non-mass-murderers to be portrayed onscreen, no, really."

Yeah, I agree. Of course the Dean is creepy. He's written as being creepy. I think (speaking of Sunny) the McPoyles are hilarious, but they're also creepy as shit.

The Dean antics ride a very fine line for me, and I can easily see how some people would see that episode as crossing the line.

If you have friends who'd judge you for your opinion on a fictional character they are not real friends and you don't need to worry about them.

It is not worth having the respect of fickle people.

I totally agree, OP. That is my least favorite episode on the show. Even though the Dean always came off as kind of creepy to me, he seemed harmless up until he mentioned reading the e-mails between Jeff and his therapist.

SPOILER ALERT

I don't know show I feel about the Dean moving in next door to Jeff either ....

(Anonymous) 2013-02-11 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they certainly towed the line between funny and creepy before, but I get the sense that the new showrunners have no problem crossing that line and running with it.
