Eh, he has too much of a fatherly quality to him, and she's very much wanting a father figure somewhat less uncaring than hers, so no, I'm not putting romance into this one.

There are attractive things in the idea of romantic confusion between those two. I know just what you mean about drama and angst: standard "romance" simply doesn't fit and probably wouldn't satisfy, but so many of romance's comorbid conditions really, really would. Infatuation, shame, intimacy, mutual confessions, awkwardness, affection, having to disentangle familial and romantic affection...I don't think Unsounded necessarily would or should put these things on the screen, but it might treat them with the same kind of moderation it has used for Serious Shit so far. And I would definitely enjoy that :3

Duane is also an actual treasure trove if you've got body horror and/or xenophilia kinks. He is a ghoulish figure with a fantastically un-ghoulish - friendly, dorky, idealistic - personality. I love that contrast, it lets us as viewers get a really close and privileged perspective on all his freakiness.

I got ship-like vibes from them too, just from certain panels. The sad thing is that those panels were clearly meant for him to be fatherly to her, not... romantic.
