Honestly, I think the problem with FFF on io9 wasn't so much SJWs as the fact that io9 is way more mainstream than TR.
This type of article on the homepage only drives up ad revenues if your audience is 1/full of total nerds and 2/expecting it. I don't think regular io9 readers were ready for the skullfucking yet.

oh, they totally were.
I'm still pissed that they won't allow someone else to do FFF because it's now part of their "portfolio".
