Swedish tv's most important geo demo is... Swedes. French tv's most important geo demo is... the French. Argetinian tv's most important geo demo is... Argentinians.

British and American tv's most important geo demo is... the UK and Americans. With other Anglo markets coming in very close second, and non-Anglo markets as a desirable and sometimes achievable 3rd because America in particular excels at exporting THEIR cultural product.

People seem to be watching Game of Thrones, and nobody lives in Westeros.

(Actually, that might be a bad example, since Westeros is pseudo-European, and Americans seem to want to think they're still Europeans. How good were the ratings for Avatar: The Last Airbender?)

Some. Some Europeans want to think Americans still get wet over the thought of living up to Europe.

(On the other hand, GoT has a good audience in South-America and I wouldn't be surprised if it also has fans in other continents)

Yes. Because Anglo-Saxon nations excel at exporting their cultural product. This has already been established.

It's seriously upsetting to me that people can't fucking realize the stupidity of this argument. It's one of those "losing faith in humanity" moments, I swear. It's depressing.

I'm from a South American country and for my part, the less either British or American media feels like clumsily portraying my country's culture and values system, the happier I am.

Are you seriously unable to understand the differences between FANTASY worlds and cultures and REAL nations and cultures?

Are you unable to grasp the implications? Do you know what cultural stereotypes are?

Actually, don't answer. I'm done here.

Do you know what cultural stereotypes are?

I belatedly realize that was a stupid thing for me to ask. Of course you know. You're using one about Americans in the comment I'm replying to.

Imagine something this delightful about South Americans. Or the Chinese (China, where Downton Abbey is incredibly popular). Oh joy.
