I'm so torn on this one--I love their friendship as is, and I don't want it to get fucked up with the usual Grey's romantic drama that will inevitably follow... but at the same time I think they'd be happy together. I'd rather he end up with her than anyone else.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty much. Chances are, if they do get together, one of them will be kidnapped/maimed/killed by a runaway giraffe or something.

They've already covered: bomb, ferryboat, bus, shooter (twice), cancer, and airplane. Runaway giraffe could work, though they DID have a runaway lion...

lol woah, Grey's Anatomy is still on? Holy shit.

I'm just so over the new interns. I don't care about any of them. And I've always loathed Alex, so I really don't want anyone, even one of the new interns, stuck with him. He's a horrible person who doesn't deserve anyone.

I'm really sticking around at this point only for Callie/Arizona and Christina/Owen. Those are the only characters left that I care about.

I was about to write exactly the same comment. :D

Shonda's all but flat out said they get together, & what Shonda wants Shonda gets, the opinion of anyone else or common sense be damned. I'm with you. Their friendship is great, & I cringed at the end of the last episode when Alex began looking at her as a romantic interest.

Also, the new interns don't interest me at all. I love Grey's, but it needs to end before it's completely ruined.

Shonda thinks couples are destined to be together. Every character has their partner that is set out as destined on the show. The only reason that changes is if the other character leaves. Shonda is never subtle with couples. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I don't think it works well here, and the sense I get is that much of the fandom agrees.

[personal profile] mfirefly10 2013-02-13 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
UGH, THIS.

I just...I know it's her show and she has the final say but the fact is, not every couple is MEANT TO BE. Some people are just too different or want such different things out of life that keeping them together makes NO sense. You have to change some fundamental things about the characters in order to make it work and that should NEVER happen. Yes people can grow and change but to give them an entire personality switch JUST so your couple can stay together is ridiculous.

Ehh, I don't completely agree: I am pretty sure that all of Callie's pairings up until Arizona were always going to be doomed. Possibly Shonda had Arizona lined up for her!

Ugh, that makes me sad :(
philstar22: (Default)

[personal profile] philstar22 2013-02-13 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
I agree those earlier couples were going to be doomed. But none of those were the Shonda made for each other couples. Those were more like Derek and Addison or Meredith with the vet. I meant in terms of the made for each other couples. Like, Meredith and Derek were never going to permanently break up. And if Lexie and Mark hadn't left the show, they would have gotten back together even though they'd never actually worked on their problems. Because they were made for each other, so it didn't matter.

Damn it, you're right.

Why do I still love this show why
I was going to watch Scandal instead but that totally sounds even worse if that's possible

Sigh, too late, kinda. That made me roll my eyes too; this show is usually great at friendships, but I hate fake friendships that are just a prelude to boning. Like, that's different from 'friends first,' because in that case it wasn't necessarily obvious at first and then grew to make sense over time. But with these two, it just felt fake every time they were like "omg no, you're like my sibling!" :P On the upside, at least Jackson/April are over. Dear God, she's the worst.
philstar22: (Default)

[personal profile] philstar22 2013-02-13 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
I love April, but I love her on her lonesome. I don't think she and Jackson were suited at all. They are better as friends.

I totally agree on the fake friends thing. Especially when it is combined with the "slap, slap, kiss" trope like these two are. Make up your minds. Is it a bickering love couple (except the are actually arguing, and not just arguing because of romantic tension) or a friends to lovers couple (in which case, you need way more time for the trope to work). Sometimes mixing tropes works, but here it is just failing spectacularly.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
I liked her just fine until she slept with Jackson and then proceeded to spend 90% of her screentime angsting about how her life was now ruined because she'd had sex. (Every other major character is fucking on any available surface they can find regardless of marital status, April, I really don't think that's the root cause of all your problems.) I was really relieved when Jackson finally just dumped her and they could both move on to try and find more compatible people.

[personal profile] la_petite_singe 2013-02-13 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it was pretty annoying that they finally had a character who was choosing to wait to have sex, and then made her the most annoyingly stereotypical virgin ever and a frequently incompetent/immature doctor to boot. And then she finally loses it to one of the hottest men on the planet and she just keeps talking about how Jesus hates her now because she's not a virgin "for [her] husband"--uh, how about for yourself?? Lord. I just can't with her. I love him with Intern Pretty Lady [I can't be bothered to remember their names] and I'm fine with her being with Chef Jeff From Switched At Birth, because they're annoying as balls together.

I love April! I think it's because unlike Meredith and Cristina, she's actually a nice person to people other than patients. Those two are just so snarky and bitchy to everyone else!

*totally idolizes Queen Cristina*

*quietly backs out of thread*

Christina is awesome. She and Callie are my favorites. I like April because she's different from everyone else, but Christina is totally queen along with Callie.

CRISTINA AND CALLIE YASSS

seriously, put those two together and you have my personality. Or what I aspire to be, anyway. (Bailey is my other fave.)

I like Cristina when she can let her walls down around someone, like the recent divorce stuff with Owen and when she became friends with Mr. Feeny from Boy Meets World, but when she and Meredith get together they turn into the Bitch Brigade.

I was happy to see a male/female friendship, especially because they acted like bro and sis and thought of each other as such. But now it's pretty well solidified that they are gonna bone with the Alex's "oh shit I do love you" eyes last episode.

Sigh. I just want to see a strong female/male friendship without boning on this show.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-13 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I guess if they have to make it more complicated, I could settle for an unrequited love scenario, on Alex's side.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-14 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, same.
