Fanfic idea sort of entering canon.

I've long had a fanfic concept and one particular scene to go with it in my head that was very dramatic and dangerous and awesome, but despite having all that, I couldn't quite muster up the actual story to surround it.

And now? I got a little behind on my Castle watching, but if next week's promo is any indication to go by, possibly the whole concept but it would definitely seem like That Scene is pretty much going to be in the episode.

So. I can't decide if I should throw that scene by itself out into the wild internet, if I should make myself miserable trying to rush through a story idea and writing everything (badly, I'm sure) before then, or if I should just be happy that at least one aspect of the show is actually doing something that I really wanted to see, thus negating the need for the fanfic.

In reality, I'll probably just wait until the episode airs, see how similar it really is to my scene and go from there.

I suggest at least trying to write it. Different situation, but I was writing a fic taking place after a series from 2003. I had a basic idea for another(and possibly final.) fic in the series, but a canon sequel was announced, and I decided to wait and watch it before really getting into the fic. I love the canon sequel, but at the same time I've lost all the steam for the fic which I will probably never finish now.

Seconded.

You can write just the scene itself and then see if you want to continue doing something around it. I think that publishing it as a standalone would also be perfectly acceptable.

Write it! Or at least write and post an outline. Then you can show people that you totally called out That Scene first!
