I'm going to say that you probably should watch season 1, even though it's not the best it does have some important set up to who the characters are.

If you're going to skip episodes at least watch the first few episodes and the last few episodes of the season. A lot of stuff about the final episodes will be referenced in season 2 and throughout the series, so you need to at least vaguely recall it.

If it gets boring just do something else while watching, work out, draw, play on the internet. That's what I do some times when I'm marathoning a show that takes time to get into.

IMO the "important things you need to recall" (you're referring to the finale, right?) from season one are explained in dialogue in season 2 perfectly well.

Now, I'd recommend watching season one fairly early, because it does set up the character arcs in an important way, but I'd recommend *first* watching just two or three episodes from season 2 first to get a better feel for the show.
