What's so awful about the new fans? Genuinely curious.

I've only recently started watching his stuff too and reblog a lot of him, but mostly I see gifs and pictures...which are frankly what you find under every tag. Maybe you don't like the squeeing about his hotness? That too is everywhere on tumblr, so I'm a bit confused here.

I'm not the OP, so I can't speak for him/her, but I don't think it's so much new fans as the new fans that are flash-in-the-pan types. They're creepy and infatuated and 6 months later they'll be onto something new.

What I've seen from RA fans doesn't even compare halfway to what I've seen from Tom Hiddleston fans, but I've still seen some creepy stuff from newbie RA fangirls.

Someone below said they thought OP was referring to old RA fans so I'm thinking I misread the secret. The part about alienating old fans confused me.

But either way, don't all fandoms (and actors) have fans like that? Sometimes people go through phases or take breaks from their fandoms.

Maybe I've just been lucky, then. Everything I've seen has been pretty usual for tumblr.

Creepy fans? I'm genuinely curious, because so far I've only seen the 'normal' kind of comments popular actors get on tumblr: stuff about how hot he is and stuff about what a great actor he is (which is both true, imo). But I haven't seen anything creepy yet like people harassing him or anything like that, so ... what do the creepy fans do?

I think "creepy fans" has become synonymous for many people with "too many people squeeing and clogging my dash with someone/something I'm not interested in".

Creepy fans, to me, are people who send the creators of Teen Wolf Sterek cookies, send sex toys to Michael Rosenbaum, obstruct production of shows because of the attractive actor(s) in them (Vampire Diaries, Twilight, Tom Hiddleston), continually say how they, at 13, are going to marry a 41-year-old actor, and inform creators, actors, etc about certain slash and RPF pairings and fics. People who completely disregard the 4th wall.

Correction: It was not at a con, it was at a charity event. I have no idea why they did it. I'm not into Smallville or the fandom, I just remember reading about this wank and being completely embarrassed for him. Pretty much having a similar reaction to Lee Pace fans on Tumblr that you are about Richard Armitage. I mean, he's in the movie for all of 5 seconds! Where were all you guys when my show got cancelled!?

I mean, the one plus is that in 6 months the weird, creepy fangirls on Tumblr will be onto something else?

Am I reading this completely differently from everyone else? It doesn't seem to me that the OP's complaining about the new squeeing fans being creepy. It's the old Armitage Army lot who've been around for years. If anything they seem thankful for the new fans. If that's the case, I agree. That tag used to be weird to go into when it was all RArmy stuff, but now it's all fun.

I'm late, but I remember the Armitage Army being a very clique and fight-y bunch from years back. Like their forum and c19 were always at each others' throats back in the day. I was never very active member, so I only knew very little of what was going on, but things got kind of tense at times... And there were rumors that Armitage himself or some of his family members read the boards, so pretty much all less than super flattering posts of him got deleted post-haste. I don't know if that's still going on.

I also do remember some creepy older fans, like people who would try to police any and all opinions about him, such as jumping really hard on gay rumors, stuff like that.

I think it's hilarious how many people misread this secret and thought you were dissing new fans rather than this RArmy group, despite the fact the entire first paragraph is about how awful they were.
