Because it's not like there are ever characters who haven't met yet in canon, but who have similar personalities or similar interests or conflicting personalities or other personality traits that would make their interactions pretty fascinating if they ever met. That doesn't exist. Why would people ever ship pairings who don't know each other in canon?

Oh, I'm totally cool with everything getting mocked, I do that, too. I guess I'm just touchy because I've met too many people who are incredibly serious and self-righteous about their own ships, especially if they ship canon pairings, and total douchebags about non-canon ships (esp. between characters who haven't met yet) because that's ridiculous while shipping canon ships is SUPER SERIOUS BUSINESS. ;)

I don't understand why you'd make fun of people who ship people who hate each other in canon to begin with. Characters who hate each other often have great chemistry. Why wouldn't you want to explore and play with that?

He's a recurring character in Castle this season. He has appeared in 2 episodes so far and it looks like he might be back. He was so effing good!

You know, I would not have shipped them until his most recent episode. Now? I can't see the fluffy romance -- or even romance at all -- but I can totally see the chemistry required for some hot sex under just the right circumstances.
