Kink meme de-anoning etiquette

(Anonymous) 2013-02-15 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
So there apparently isn't a fandom handbook about this one so I wanted to ask here what the general etiquette for de-anoning kink meme fills is.
How long should one wait?
Is it a faux pas to do at all and makes you an irredeemable gloryhound undermining the spirit and ideals of the anonymous fandom zeitgeist? Cause I am all about oppressing the common man

Mostly that first one.

I didn't even know there was such a thing as "kinkmeme de-anoning ettiquette"
Now I'm worried I've committed some terrible faux-pas by reposting a fic out-of-anon.

It doesn't matter, de-anon when you want.

I only visit one kmeme, but I'm not sure there's really any rules or etiquette there. Most of the time on my one kmeme, if at all, authors de-anon after completing a fill and crossposting it to AO3, ff.net etc.

It's your fic. If you want to claim it in public than claim it. Unless there are actual rules against posting under your own name I don't see why you should post it anonymously at all.

This!(?) I adopted a kinkmeme prompt while unanon, plan on posting it unanon, is this some sort of horrible lack of courtesy? I just don't see the point of being anon when writing fic.

Re: Kink meme de-anoning etiquette

I don't think there really are rules about it.I always assumed the anon was there so people who ashamed or didn't want people to know they write certain things could do so anonymously.(seriously trying to word that was horrible cause it kept coming across as kink shaming, but I think it's more like people who are ashamed of their kinks? idk I still can't word it in a way that doesn't sound horrible to me so hopefully you get my meaning.)

So de-anoning isn't really a big deal in my book.

No matter how many times people ask this same question, I have never seen anyone get bent out of shape because someone de-anoned too soon or too late. It's your fic, you can post it wherever.

The only kinkmeme I participate in regularly doesn't really care too much about anon; it's an option if you feel embarrassed, but plenty of people prompt and write non-anon, and plenty of author!anons will de-anon to claim their stories once they're complete. Then there are all the people that de-anon themselves by accident partway through. So in my admittedly limited experience, it's no big deal.
