Tea Drinkers:

(Anonymous) 2013-02-15 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
So I see a lot of people saying they primarily drink tea, and a lot of it. Question, is this like you brew a cup of tea each time you want a drink? Because that just seems like a pain in the but. Or do you make a bunch at once and drink throughout the day?

I literally just pour hot water over the tea bag and squeeze the tea-y flavour out of it then add milk and I'm done. It takes me no time at all. Do you get bored easily or am I just a pleb drinking rubbish tea?

No I get bored easily. Heating the water would bore me. Sadly I am not exaggerating. Plus I'd drink like the whole cup in two minutes then want more.

Well yeah, that's definitely a problem. I guess that's why I drink so much tea.

Jumping in to say that is my exact tea 'brewing' method - I find if you pour just boiled water directly onto a teabag it gets stronger so much faster. And then add lots of milk. 30 seconds max to make tea after the water boils yeah!

But then again, I'm pretty sure I am a pleb when it comes to hot beverages, because when I'm not making this kind of bastardized tea I'm mainlining drinking instant coffee :/

While I would hesitate to use the terminology you've employed here, your brewing method probably isn't going to result with the best cup of tea. Not to mention that tea-bags, as a general rule, tend to be lower-quality tea compared to looseleaf tea.

There's nothing wrong with that - if you like the end product, you like the end product, and it's certainly more convenient than more involved methods of brewing tea. But the end product isn't going to be as good.

I have a hotpot (I usually drink green tea). I use a big mug (think of those touristy Starbuck's ceramic ones with cities/areas printed on them), leave the teabag in and refill when I need to (before my cup gets empty). It usually doesn't lose the flavour until like the 4th cup.

Brew as you go. It really doesn't take any effort and anyway the ritual is a good relaxing moment to think and plan your next activity. I'd only make a pot if it was to share, I'd not bother making a pot to save me a trip to the kitchen as it'd be cold and/or stewed by the time I next wanted a cuppa.

However, I have heard that in places like the US, they don't have electric kettles that can boil a cup of water in less than a minute, so maybe its a lot more effort to make tea in some places?

I brew a cup each time. I don't think it takes too much time, if I'm really lazy I'd just pour hot water and milk and that's pretty much it. I won't even take out the bag. Drinking loose leaf is another thing though since I have to wait for _ minutes and bleh

Make it as I go. The entire ritual is as much about getting up and taking a minute to stand doing nothing while the kettle boils as it is about the tea itself anyway.

Sometimes I make a pot if I plan to sit on my ass and do work (primarily writing) but most of the time I put the kettle on and take a minute to breathe.

I boil a pot while I'm eating breakfast and take a thermos in to work. I have a really nifty thermos especially for tea, it has an infuser basket that fits right in the top of it and the inside is Yuxing clay. It's pretty awesome. It's a couple cups worth of tea and that's really all I need.

I have a hot water spigot that comes directly out of the faucet, so instant hot water is a blessing. it's my grandmother's greatest indulgence.

so get cup, add tea bag if lazy or loose leaf in strainer cup if feeling special, and wait 5 min. add sweetener. takes a while to drink but I don't really chug down liquids.

otherwise water most of the time.

I brew a cup each time, since my tea tumbler is really the only thing I can use with my loose-leaf tea and once I'm done making one cup, I'm usually off and driving. Just one cup in the morning for me.

It is kind of a pain in the butt, but it's a nice ritual and my tea is godly so I'm not too hung up on the hassle.
