Re: Doctor Who Audio Drama recs?
(Anonymous) 2013-02-15 01:22 am (UTC)(link)The Eighth Doctor basically has two separate strands, the 4x30mins serials with Charley (starting with Storm Warning) and the new series inspired 1x50min with Lucie (starting with Blood of the Daleks part 1), and personally I'd recommend just choosing one and listening in order.
The Charley stories were recorded first but there's next to no continuity between the two sets of stories (in fact I can't think of anything) so it doesn't matter.
The Lucie stories were made to capitalise on the new fans coming in with the new TV series, they 'feel' more like the current TV show, they feature more well known monsters. The Charley stories were written when the Eighth Doctor was the one writers could go nuts with because they didn't have to tie things back to on-going continuity and so they took more risks with it. There are some interesting experimental ideas in the series but they don't always work (depending on your taste, of course).
Charley was in love with the Doctor before Rose made it cool, and cracking up the universe with timey-wimeyness before Amy. Lucie is a bit more Donna-ish, loud, funny and not that impressed by the mad man she's stuck with.
