...his jokes were incredibly hurtful to a lot of vulnerable people. That is fucking ridiculous. If someone is so sensitive that a comedy routine is "incredibly hurtful" to them, they need to get help.

this! times a billion

not to mention if they're feeling 'vulnerable' then why the fuck would they be watching provocative comedy anyway. jesus christ when are people going to realize that not everything has to be for them.

He made jokes directed at and naming people, they weren't just vague jokes aimed at a group. Of course it will hurt if it's about you or your child.

+1

So...you're in favor of rape jokes, then?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-15 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm in favor of free speech. I'm not in favor of censorship in arts and entertainment for the sake of shielding people who have an unreasonable expectation of being shielded from whatever their sensitivities might be. I don't find rape jokes funny but if a comedian makes them and still has an audience, then good for them. The comedian has what they need and the audience gets what they want. Everyone else needs to go find their own entertainment.

"In favor," then. Got it.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-15 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
in favor as in doesn't think they should be outlawed. cause, ya know, FREE SPEECH.

We don't have to want it criminalized just because we say people shouldn't do it. I mean, I don't think infidelity should be illegal either, but I'd still say cheating is typically not the thing to do.

And if enough people say they don't like rape jokes, then comedians will start making other jokes, and they will still get what they need, and the audience still gets what they want. See, people who don't like rape jokes count too, and if somebody seriously can't enjoy a comedy act unless it has rape jokes, then they're the one who has a problem and should get help.

yeah but people laugh at rape jokes. it's not like people are just not saying they don't like them, they actively enjoy them and so comedians take that as approval to keep writing them and telling them. and while i don't personally enjoy them, i don't fault people for finding them funny. we make light of horrible things all the time, and for good reason, it's therapeutic. for a lot of people it's a way of coping with the awful things that happen in this world.

It's one thing to joke about celebrities, but to make fun of someone's severely disabled child is quite another.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-15 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Go back and listen to what he said: the joke was about Katie Price and her latest flavor of the week. It wasn't about the kid. Most rational human beings are absolutely appalled at the way Katie Price treats that poor child and in this case someone was actually using him to satirically illustrate how her life choices make her disabled child's life worse.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-15 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, everything is fair in comedy.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-15 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
People verbally bullied are weak and need to get over it. Sure.

This POV is disgusting. And you are classic bully material.

(Anonymous) 2013-02-15 09:11 am (UTC)(link)
Who has Frankie Boyle verbally bullied? Or are you talking about something completely unrelated to this thread?

Why should people never feel incredibly hurt by comedy acts?

(Anonymous) 2013-02-15 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
Why is someone that sensitive/vulnerable watching a provocative comedian? People have the right to be offended, not the right to never be offended.
