I'm not sure it's possible to take Fëanor's ego down a peg by any means.

But it's not like seeing Nerdanel and Fingolfin try wouldn't be fun though.

I just had the thought that maybe the only person to be able to do that might be Finwë, which, in the context of that secret, was a very icky thought indeed.

Exactly what I thought ;) maybe nothing can take his ego down, but I think Fëanor will at least be outraged if somebody can ever top him. But yeah, Finwë/Fëanor is a bit too much for me, and I think Finwë probably will submit to his favourite son's will anyway. Need somebody who dare stand up against Fëanor like Nerdanel or Fingolfin.

How do people recognize Silmarillion elves in pictures with no context and tell them apart? Is there a Silmarillion fandom somewhere where a fanon has been worked out re: characters' looks? (And if so, where can I find it?)

I mean, given that the guy to the right looks like an elf and is surrounded by fire, Fëanor would be a reasonable guess, but he could also be a completely different character from an unrelated work. Who's the elf on the left, by the way? (And before you ask, I did read the Silmarillion recently, as in about a month ago. Are the pictures used here official illustrations from one of several different editions, by any chance?)

In this case both pieces are by one of the most popular Silm fanartists, Gold-Seven, whose style is pretty recognisable once you've seen a couple of her pieces (and I wish she would illustrate an edition -- I'd buy it in a heartbeat)

It's Fingolfin - everyone has their own interpretations of the characters, but like xi_feng said, Jenny Dolfen's art is so omnipresent in the fandom that it becomes really easy to both recognize her style and tell who's who out of context after a while.

I remember seeing pictures of this style around back in '04, when I was heavily involved in the Silm end of the LotR fandom.

Spend enough time in LotR, especially amongst elf fans, you see this stuff turn up.

Yeah, I think I should have put name there. I jut thought because these 2 pictures used a lot in fandom most Silmarillion fans will know. They're fingolfin and fëanor
