Anyway: don't give a crap about them. As someone who has played silly online fantasy text rpgs for years I can tell you that the people up in arms--unless you're on a site where there's an age limit under 18 and there's rules against this for good reason--are silly. Just don't jump on an ooc channel or something to talk about all the awesome spaceship dragon rape rp you're having because talking loudly about it to people who don't want to know really is a stupid thing to do.

I love the fact that the moment I read the secret and saw the dragon I knew exactly what canon it was. Oh, Dragonriders Of Pern I love you, you are what got me into roleplaying in the first place, but man oh man do you have some issues. Rereading some of the books made me cringe so hard at points.

I'm not sure this is exactly what you're talking about OP, but I think fandom fails to recognize that a lot of the time people who use rp as therapy don't only fall into the "You can't do/say that, because it's triggering." camp. The other side to the coin is there are often a lot of people who feel like rp is a safe way to confront abuse or assault or grief in their own lives rather than use it as simple escapism. It also bothers me when people try to tell me what I can and can't roleplay, simply because they feel uncomfortable with it.

There's also nothing wrong with wanting to roleplay it for the emotionality involved or because you have a fetish that you want to indulge in a manner that isn't potentially harmful to anyone.

tl;dr I agree that people should be allowed to play out a fantasy in whatever way they choose, about whatever subject matter they choose. Fuck anybody that says different.

(Also, where are you Pern rp-ing these days that you can find enough people to even *get* into these fights with? Every damn group I look into seems to die before I can get a character sheet together. (Except Arolos, and that one's kind of intimidating.)
