Re: languages
English: Hello, my name is Renateand I am 22 years old, I live in Norway
Bokmål: Hei, jeg heter Renate og jeg er 22 år gammel, jeg bor i Norge
NyNorsk: Hei, eg heiter Renate og eg er 22 år gamal, eg bor i Noreg
Bokmål is Norwegianized Danish, Nynorsk is a mix between the Norwegian dialects made up by this dude ages ago to replace Bokmål (which did not work, but we have to learn it in school, and it is in use)
Norwegian Education system: /
1st - 7th grade - Primary School/Elementary School
8th - 10th grade - Middle School/Junior High
<- here ends the part of schooling you have to do by law
11th - 13th grade - Upper secondary school/High School
Or
11th to 12th grade - Trade School then two years as a apprentice
I have an easier time with the different words, because I was taught it in school.
Re: languages
and standardized language made by picking stuff from random dialects is just... no. why.
ok, in Germany it also ends at 10th grade and then x more depending on what you want to do.
I also learnt the words in school, but I didn't really bother and it's not words you use that often in casual internet conversation, I guess?
Re: languages
Yeah, you only go 13 years in school if you want to attend Universities in Norway, if you want to become an electrician or nurses aid (and so on) you go 12 years and then you are done with school books, except an exam after your apprentice period.
*Also known as Danes, or the Happy Drunks in The South depending on whom you are talking to.
Re: languages
maybe it just looks easier on my eyes because I have seen Danish before.
(and German "gammeln" means to decay / to mold / ... so that's really a weird association.)
Re: languages
Probably, Denmark and Germany have a closer relationship than Norway and Germany. Also if you read on Scandinavian food, they usually only write in Swedish and then they mix Danish/Norwegian to one, and if you have heard spoken Norwegian and spoken Danish, you realize how different we sound, but we write basically the same way.
(Gammel is also used in Norwegian about old food, except we also use the word: Rotten)
